The Iowa State Fair opened this week. A million people or more will visit this annual tradition. Corn dogs will be consumed. Concerts attended. Hogs, cattle, and produce judged. The 11-day event brings together Iowans from all across the state. Rural and urban. And once again, the individuals who want to be the next president will walk the grounds, press the flesh and ask for votes.None of this happens by accident. Hundreds of staff and volunteers ensure your visit to the Iowa State Fair will be one you can cherish. Exhibitors return every year, determined to serve Iowans with their best. And behind it all is the fundraising arm for the Iowa State Fair, the Blue Ribbon Foundation. Iowa is renowned for its collaboration and partnerships. Much of the state’s ability to separate itself from its neighbors has been borne out of the generosity of business and philanthropic leaders. And such is the case with the Iowa State Fair. Since its inception, the Blue Ribbon Foundation has raised millions of dollars. It’s allowed for renovation of buildings, sidewalks, stages and more. It’s made for a better experience for every stakeholder – vendors, exhibitors and attendees. So, if you’re attending the fair this year, join us in thanking everyone responsible for making this one of the top fairs in the country. And make time to come visit all your favorite KCCI team members. We broadcast our news every weekday at 5 p.m. on the MidAmerican Stage.
