Kayla James joined the KCCI News team in January 2020 as a general assignment reporter.

Des Moines isn’t Kayla’s first stop in Iowa. She spent two years in Cedar Rapids covering several Eastern Iowa cities and communities. Before then she called Florida her home for 20 years. She’s a proud Gator who graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and another in Political Science.

When she’s not at work, Kayla is usually out on road trips with friends exploring different Midwest cities or you can find her at different festivals and farmer’s markets throughout Iowa. On her downtime, though, she’s also a frequent visitor of local coffee shops and restaurants in the Des Moines area.
