Trey Fulbright
MeteorologistMeteorologist Trey Fulbright was born in Dallas, TX, and spent most of his childhood in Texas and in Tennessee. Trey has always been fascinated with weather for as long as he can remember, however, it was the 2008 Super Tuesday Tornado Outbreak in the Mid-South that got him “hooked” and steered him toward becoming a meteorologist. Throughout grade school and into high school, Trey continued to pursue his passion for meteorology by attending National Weather Service Storm Spotter Training and local weather programs put on by local broadcast meteorologists.
In 2018, Trey graduated from Fort Worth Christian High School and enrolled in the meteorology program at Iowa State University. He credits the strong recruitment program, friendly staff and students, and rich meteorology program at Iowa State University for deciding to attend. During his time at Iowa State, Trey was involved in President Wendy Wintersteen’s freshman leadership class, American Meteorological Society (AMS) Student Chapter, and Central Iowa chapter of the National Weather Association. In addition to these organizations, Trey was involved in and became a producer for “Cy’s Eyes on the Skies,” a weather broadcast led by Iowa State students interested in broadcast meteorology.
During the summer after his freshman year, Trey was a volunteer at the National Weather Service Fort Worth, TX, where he assisted with weather balloon launches, tornado damage surveys, and completed two research projects on tornado climatology and the Texas dry line. During the summer after his junior year, he was chosen to be in a research program at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. Trey presented his research during the 2022 Student American Meteorological Society Conference in Houston, TX and received an outstanding poster award. All meteorology seniors at Iowa State University are required to do an undergraduate senior thesis, and Trey presented his thesis on “Ideal Low-Level Parameters for Tornado Formation” and won a runner-up outstanding thesis award. Trey graduated from Iowa State University in May 2022 with a major in meteorology and a minor in journalism.
Outside of meteorology, Trey enjoys spending time with family and friends. He enjoys listening to smooth jazz, volunteering at his church, and cooking. He is an avid outdoorsman and loves to play frisbee golf, hike, and fish during his free time.
Trey looks forward to serving Central Iowans by bringing them easy to understand and accurate weather forecasts and being involved in the community.
