Here's a look at highest rainfall totals across Iowa during Wednesday's storms
WE’RE DONE WITH THE RAIN. IT SEEMS LIKE, AT LEAST FOR NOW, FOR THE MOST PART. I MEAN, THE APPRECIABLE RAIN IS PRETTY MUCH DONE HERE, ALEX. WE JUST GOT LEFTOVER MOISTURE IN THE FORM OF THESE LOW CLOUDS HERE THAT ARE HANGING OUT OVER THE CITY OF DES MOINES AT THIS HOUR. NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED IN OUR CURRENT TEMPERATURES OR ANYTHING ELSE LIKE THAT. FOR THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS, WE’VE BEEN STUCK BASICALLY RIGHT AROUND THAT 70 DEGREE MARK THROUGH THE MORNING AND HERE INTO THE LUNCH HOUR, LAST FEW DROPS OF RAIN STRETCHING BASICALLY FROM CRAWFORD COUNTY BACK THROUGH THE DES MOINES METRO AND INTO SOUTHEAST IOWA. YOU NOTICE THOSE STORMS FROM EARLIER TODAY AND THOSE ARE NOW HEADING OUT OF THE STATE. JUST A LOT OF CLOUD COVER LEFT BEHIND, BUT QUITE A BIT OF RAINFALL IN SOME SPOTS. THIS MAP IS GOING TO GIVE YOU ALL THE WEATHER STATIONS, THE AUTOMATED GAUGES HERE. WE SAW SOME REPORTS EARLIER ON ALMOST 6/10 OF AN INCH AT THE DES MOINES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, OVER AN INCH AND A HALF DOWN IN OSCEOLA, 2.2 IN LAMONI. YOU SEE THAT BRIGHT STRIPE HERE THAT STRETCHES THROUGH SOUTHWESTERN AND INTO SOUTH CENTRAL IOWA. THAT’S WHERE WE HAVE THE REAL HEAVY AMOUNTS HERE. EARLIER ON TODAY, GOT A PICTURE OF A RAIN GAUGE SOUTHWEST OF OSCEOLA THAT WAS ALMOST AT FIVE INCHES. THESE NUMBERS HERE ARE THE RADAR ESTIMATES. SO AS YOU GO SOUTH OF OSCEOLA, INTO DECATUR COUNTY, NORTH OF LEON VAN WERT, DOWN TOWARDS WEST OF HAMILTON, AND THEN EVENTUALLY WEST OF CORYDON ALLERTON, THERE’S PROBABLY SOME PLACES THAT GOT 4 TO 5IN EARLIER THIS MORNING AND THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT TIME FRAME. SO THAT’S A TON OF RAIN, PROBABLY SOME WET BASEMENTS, MAYBE A FEW DITCHES FULL OF WATER DOWN THAT DIRECTION. UNFORTUNATELY, DROUGHT WISE, WHEN YOU GET A TON OF RAIN AT ONCE, A LOT OF IT WASHES OFF. IT DOESN’T ALL GET TO GO INTO THE GROUND. NOW, WE ARE MOSTLY DONE WITH THE WIDESPREAD STUFF FOR THE REST OF TODAY, PROBABLY JUST SOME LINGERING CLOUD COVER WHEN MAYBE AN ISOLATED STORM OR TWO THAT WILL TRY TO POP HERE LATER THIS AFTERNOON AS A LITTLE DISTURBANCE. RIPPLES THROUGH FROM NEBRASKA. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, DON’T THINK WE’RE GOING TO SEE ANY WIDE SPREAD RAINFALL HERE. THE REST OF YOUR THURSDAY LATE TONIGHT. WE’LL KEEP OUR WINDS PRETTY CALM AND THAT’LL ALLOW MAYBE SOME OF THAT MOISTURE POOLING AROUND ON THE GROUND TO HELP FORM A LITTLE BIT OF SOME FOG INTO EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. ON THURSDAY. OVERALL, THOUGH, TOMORROW AFTERNOON, ON THURSDAY WILL BE SUNNIER THAN TODAY SO FAR HAS BEEN AND A LITTLE BIT WARMER AS WELL. WE SHOULD BE BACK UP INTO THE 80S COMFORTABLY AS WE GO INTO THURSDAY. FRIDAY IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE WARMEST DAY OF THE NEXT SEVERAL. I THINK WILL BE MAINLY DRY DURING THE DAY. A SPOTTY STORM OR TWO IS POSSIBLE, BUT THE BETTER CHANCE IS GOING TO COME LATER FRIDAY NIGHT AND INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF SATURDAY, AND THEN A FEW MORE SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE HERE AS WE GO INTO SATURDAY. ON THE WEEKEND, ANOTHER SYSTEM IS GOING TO PULL THROUGH HERE, IT LOOKS LIKE ON SUNDAY, COMPLEX, COMPLEX, LOW PRESSURE CENTER AND A FRONT SWINGING ON THROUGH IT. SO DON’T COMPLETELY PLAN ON THE WHOLE WEEKEND BEING DRY BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE BOTH DAYS THERE ARE SOME CHANCES FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. THEN WE’LL COOL OFF A LITTLE BIT ONCE THAT SYSTEM PASSES THROUGH LATER ON SUNDAY BY COOL OFF, I MEAN, WE’RE NOT REALLY GOING TO GET MUCH COOLER THAN WE ARE NOW. LOW 80S OUTSIDE HERE TODAY. IF WE CAN ERODE THAT CLOUD, COVER SOME YOUR BEST CHANCE THAT THAT’S GOING TO BE UP IN NORTHERN IOWA WHERE YOU’VE GOT LESS CLOUDS AND JUST LESS MOISTURE OVERALL. SO THE PEAK OF THE HEAT, NOT THAT MUCH HEAT REALLY 87. IT’S GOING TO BE THE HIGH HERE ON FRIDAY, DRIEST DAY DURING THE DAY, SUNNIEST DAY. AND THEN WE’VE GOT THOSE SCATTERED RAINFALL POSSIBILITIES STILL LINGERING INTO THE WEEKEND. PROBABLY NOTHING AS WIDESPREAD OR AS HEAVY, THOUGH, AS WE SAW EARLIER THIS MORNING. WE’LL SWEEP THAT OUT OF HERE NEXT WEEK. LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE MAINLY DRY AT LEAS
