An Ottumwa couple in the process of having a home built says they may add on to the new build plans after claiming a $2 million Powerball prize. Tammy Gordy, 56, bought the winning ticket at Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh, 1027 N. Quincy Ave. in Ottumwa. She matched the first five numbers in Saturday's drawing (2-38-44-50-62) but missed the Powerball (19). That would've been worth $1 million, but she added the Power Play option, which doubled the prize. "I fell into my chair," Gordy said in a news release from the Iowa Lottery. "I couldn't see! There were all those zeroes! I was like, 'Maybe I need my glasses.' So yeah, we screamed."Gordy and her husband Steve are building a new home after living in a rental property for years, according to the news release. She told lottery officials the prize may help pay for a few upgrades and additions. "We were in the process of building a home, and it kind of got put on hold for a few years, so now this is going to speed it up," Tammy Gordy said in the release. "And it's going to go into better details. I'm talking a walk-in closet and a Jacuzzi tub. That's what I'm talking about."The Gordys were due some good luck. The couple's home in the small Wapello County town of Agency was destroyed by a tornado in 2001."We've never been material people, I can say that," Tammy Gordy said in the release. "Family was more important to us. So, it's going to be that way. We're just going to be able to do more things."Tammy Gordy, a dietary aide at a local hospital, said she was upfront with her boss about needing some time off to claim the prize. "I called my boss and told him that I needed to take Monday and Tuesday off because I won $2 million on the Powerball," she said in the release.
