Iowa couple claims $202.1 million jackpot
A couple from Bondurant, Iowa, came forward to claim a $202.1 million Powerball jackpot Thursday morning.
Mary and Brian Lohse were presented with the check. The couple chose the cash option and will receive $90.9 million after taxes.
About $32.4 million will go to federal withholding taxes and $6.5 million to state withholding.
Brian Lohse said he thought it was a joke when his wife first called and said they had won. Brian said he checked KCCI.com and other websites and then he started believing it was possible.
"We have a plan to help our church and our community and the school," Brian Lohse said. "We’re going to set up different structures to do that, financial structures to be able to do that. And of course our kids and ourselves – we want to make sure the kids are taken care of, so that we don’t necessarily have to work 40 hours a week the rest of our lives."
Mary works at Mercy Medical Center and Brian works at EMC Insurance.
Brian said the couple plans to buy new cars and is exploring new housing options including building or buying.
"She wants a car like yesterday," said Brian.
The winning ticket was sold at a Casey's store at 1455 Grant St. in Bondurant. It won the jackpot on Sept. 26.
A winning $1 million Powerball ticket also in the drawing also sold at a Casey's store in Williamsburg.
