Car damages popular coffee shop in Des Moines
A POPULAR DOWNTOWN COFFEE SHOP IS NOW IN NEED OF SOME SERIOUS REPAIRS. NORTHERN VESSEL WAS DAMAGED AFTER A CAR DROVE INTO THE BUILDING SATURDAY. THE OWNER SAYS THERE WERE PEOPLE INSIDE THE INSIDE THE CAR, RATHER, INSIDE, RATHER, WHEN THE CAR WAS HIT. AND ONE PERSON WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BUT RETURNED TO THE SHOP A SHORT TIME LATER. EMPLOYEES SAY THEY ARE GLAD THE SITUATION WASN’T WORSE AND THE OWNER SAYS HE’S NOW WORKING TO REOPEN QUICKLY. YEAH, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO GO HOME TODAY AND THAT’S REALLY A BLESSING FOR EVERYBODY HERE. YOU REALLY CAN’T ASK FOR ANYTHING ELSE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A LOT OF DAMAGE, AND SO WE’LL MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS BOARDED UP, CLEANED UP, AND THEN WE’LL WE’LL BE OPEN AS SOON AS THAT’S DONE. Northern Vessel, a downtown coffee shop, was damaged after a car drove into the building on Saturday.The owner told KCCI there were people inside the shop when the car hit. One person was taken to the hospital but returned to the shop a short time later. Employees said they are glad the situation wasn't worse, and the owner said he is now working to reopen quickly."Everybody gets to go home today. And that’s really a blessing for everybody here. You really can’t ask for anything else," employee Michael Johnston said."There’s obviously a lot of damage, so we want to make sure that everything’s boarded up, cleaned up. And we’ll be open as soon as that’s done," owner TJ Rude said.KCCI reached out to Des Moines police about the cause of the crash. And if the driver had any injuries. We have not heard back.
