Ribbon cutting held for Trailridge School in Waukee
The Waukee Community School District held a ribbon-cutting for the district's newest school on Thursday evening.
"We try to make it inviting to the community to come out," District COO Kirk Johnson said.
In less than two weeks, Trailridge School will open its doors to students for the first time. It will be home to almost 450 sixth and seventh graders.
But there are more schools coming.
The district is building North Middle School near Trailridge, which will open in 2025. Waterford Elementary will be open in 2024.
The Waukee district continues to expand as the city grows.
"We've had a long-standing commitment to be attendant to our growth," Johnson said.
Growth is not a bad thing, according to Margie Nelson, who moved to the area about a decade ago.
"One of the reasons we came here was because of growth. Because the school system is great," Nelson said.
This fall, Waukee has more than 13,500 students registered for school.
