The night before the 'Best Days Ever': Putting the finishing touches on the Iowa State Fair

The Iowa State Fairgrounds were buzzing Wednesday afternoon as people put the finishing touches on their acts — from trampoline performances to sand sculptures. Sand SensationBrandi Glenn is the co-owner of Sandscapes. She and her husband have been traveling from California to Iowa for the fair for the past 20 years. Wednesday was their first-day molding this year's sculpture with 75 tons of sand. They will be sculpting until Aug. 19. What they will be sculpting will remain a mystery until then. But Glenn says they are always open to guesses from fairgoers. "We do not tell anybody what it is, and which encourages people to come back or try to figure out what we're doing," Glenn said. "If somebody guesses, then we might give him a thumbs up. But most of the time, we like to keep that part to ourselves."Trampoline TalentFelix Di Pasqual is the director of Milord Entertainment. His team of performers will put on three shows every single day of the fair. Performers come from Canada and France. It's the team's third time at the fair and their first time back in five years. They were busy doing a run-through of their show to make sure all of their tricks are lined up. The show will be filled with a regular Olympic trampoline, dual trampoline, dancing trapeze, bungee, trampoline wall, and a high fall from 55 feet in the air. "We were lucky enough to be here in 2017 and 18. Here, the people, they're so generous. They are loud, there's a lot of people," Di Pasqual said.
