THE NEW CONNECTOR TRAIL. ETHAN THERE’S A NEW ADDITION COMING TO THE CENTRAL IOWA BIKE TRAIL SYSTEM. IT’S CONNECTING THE HIGH TRESTLE TRAIL IN WOODWARD TO THE RACCOON RIVER VALLEY TRAIL IN PERRY. AND THERE’S NO SHORTAGE OF EXCITEMENT FOR THE NEW TRAIL. THE LAST LEG IS FINALLY GETTING COMPLETED. THESE ARE TWO OF OUR MOST ICONIC TRAILS IN THE STATE. THE TRAIL’S BEEN A HUGE, HUGE FACTOR IN PUTTING OUR BUSINESS HERE WITH HELP FROM THE IOWA NATURAL HERITAGE FOUNDATION. THE HIGH TRESTLE TRAIL AND THE RACCOON RIVER VALLEY TRAIL ARE GOING TO BE CONNECTED AT LAST. IT’S TAKEN OVER A DECADE OF PLANNING AND PLENTY OF GRANTS AND DONATIONS. BUT THE $8 MILLION PROJECT IS A GO. TO HELP FURTHER LENGTHEN CENTRAL IOWA’S BIKING TRAILS TO DO THEM BOTH WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO GET ON A ROAD OR GET IN YOUR CAR, OR HAS ALSO INSPIRED THE VISION AND THE BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT. EVEN GO BEYOND THE TRAILS THESE COMMUNITIES HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THEIR TOWN TO THESE CYCLISTS VISITING FROM NOT ONLY ALL ACROSS THE METRO AND THE STATE, BUT FRANKLY, THE COUNTRY AND SHOW THE BEST THINGS THAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER. AND A KEY PIECE OF THE COMMUNITY IN MADRID, A STOP ON THE HIGH TRESTLE TRAIL IS SISTERS AND CHEESE. IT’S A SMALL BUSINESS THAT STARTED BY SELLING GRAZING BOARDS, BOXES AND TABLES. AND NOW, DUE TO THE INCREASED BIKER TRAFFIC, YOU CAN SEE MORE FOOD BEING SOLD AT THE SHOP. NOW WE’RE KIND OF LAYERING IN MORE BREAKFAST OPTIONS AND A LOT MORE SALADS AND GREEN SALADS, THAT SORT OF THING, BECAUSE THERE’S NOT A LOT OF OPTIONS FOR THAT ON THE TRAIL CURRENTLY, JOHNSON EXPECTS THE SALES TO ONLY INCREASE FROM THE ADDED TRAIL CONNECTION, ACCORDING TO THE IOWA NATURAL HERITAGE FOUNDATION, THE TRAIL SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY NEXT YEAR IN WOODWARD, ETHAN HUMBLE
