Perry High School football is back on the field in 2023
If the sting of having to cancel the last three games of the football season due to injuries last year is still biting, the Perry High School football players do not let it show.
"We use it as motivation for us," said Geren Kenney, junior captain.
The work to erase the bitter taste left by the way 2022 ended started right after last season — both physically and mentally.
"We just said we are going to start instilling confidence in our guys from day one," assistant football coach Jackson VanKirk said.
The team has about 60 players attending football workouts, giving them something they did not have last year — depth.
"To know that we have 60 kids out right now is super exciting," activities director Katelyn Whelchel said.
The first game of the season is Friday, Aug. 25, at home against Des Moines Hoover.
The players are predicting a victory.
