Hawkeyes receive votes for preseason coaches poll but left out of Top 25
The Iowa Hawkeyes are among the teams who received votes in the preseason USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll but will start the 2023 season unranked.
Two-time defending national champion Georgia tops the poll, which was released Monday, with 61 first-place votes, followed by Michigan (zero first-place votes) and Alabama (4). Ohio State (1) and LSU round out the top five.
Georgia received 1,643 total points, based on 25 points for first place through 1 for 25th.
The Hawkeyes, who finished 8-5 last season, received 169 total points. They open the season at home against Utah State at 11 a.m. on Sept. 2.
Iowa State, which did not receive any votes, kicks off the season in Ames at 1 p.m. on Sept. 2 against Northern Iowa.
