'Reflects really well upon their character': Sheriff's office deputies help veteran with yardwork following welfare check

Lee Foor is a Navy veteran who had been struggling to keep up with his yard for a while.
"There wasn't anything I could do about it, you know I can't stand without a cane," Foor said.
In early July, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office in New Mexico got a call for a welfare check to make sure Foor was OK. Deputy Wesley Buster said when he showed up, he could see the yard in bad shape.
"I noticed he was using a walker getting around and saw weeds that were 5 feet high," Buster said.
He decided something needed to be done.
"The next day, we went there and we just started knocking out the weeds and we had no calls for service," Buster said.
The next day happened to be the Fourth of July. On that hot day, deputies got the lawn under control within two hours. They even got Just in Time pest control to help out.
Deputy Mark Cerna helped with the cleanup and said, "We also had a friend of one of the deputies that was willing to come out on the Fourth of July and spray his yard."
Although some may see it as a small contribution, those who saw the call for service say it made for a great Fourth of July.
"Like these guys didn't have to take time out of their day just to go," Just in Time owner Justin Gray said. "Reflects really well upon their character."
Now, Foor doesn't have to worry about clearing out his weeds until next year, and he knows just the men for the job.
"They cleared all the weeds out of the yard. This is wonderful," Foor said. "I can't get out and do it."
