THE SUIT. NEW AT FIVE DES MOINES PUBLIC SCHOOLS SAYS IT IS EYEING OCTOBER FOR THE FIRST GAMES TO BE PLAYED AT THE NEW MEDIA COM STADIUM AT DRAKE UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS. KCCI IS BEAU BOWMAN IS LIVE AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE WHERE ALL THE WORK IS STILL WELL UNDERWAY. VO. WELL, STACY, WE’RE JUST THREE WEEKS AWAY FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON AND WHILE THE TEAMS WON’T START THEIR SEASON IN THE NEW MEDIA COMM STADIUM, THAT’S WHERE THEY HOPE TO END IT. CONSTRUCTION IS STILL MOVING ALONG AT THE NEW MEDIA COMM STADIUM. THE SCOREBOARD IS IN PLACE AND THE BLEACHERS ARE STANDING UPRIGHT. BUT IT IS SOON TO BE HOME TO FOUR OF THE FIVE FOOTBALL AND SOCCER TEAMS WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SEASON, JUST THREE WEEKS AWAY, THEY WILL START THE SEASON AT THEIR HOME STADIUMS. A SPOKESPERSON SAYS THE FIRST GAMES WILL BE PLAYED HERE DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF OCTOBER. WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT OUR STUDENTS, OUR PLAYERS, OUR MARCHING BANDS, FANS AND PARENTS AND EVERYONE WOULD HAVE A CHANCE TO ENJOY THE NEW FACILITY, PAY IT A VISIT. YET THIS YEAR, SOON AFTER THAT, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SAYS THEY WILL BEGIN TO MAKE SOME REVISIONS TO THE EXISTING STADIUMS TO MAKE THEM MORE FRIENDLY FOR OTHER EVENTS LIKE TRACK AND FIELD. THOSE EXISTING STADIUMS AREN’T GOING ANYWHERE. THEY’RE STILL GOING TO BE USED BY SCHOOLS JUST USING A DIFFERENT WAY. A SPOKESPERSON WITH DRAKE UNIVERSITY SAYS THEIR MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM WILL BEGIN HOSTING MATCHES IN THE STADIUM AFTER THE OPENING. PEOPLE WE SPOKE TO IN THE DRAKE NEIGHBORHOOD TODAY SAY THEY ARE EXCITED TO SEE THE PROJECT FINISHED. I KIND OF LIKE IT. IT’S VERY NICE. I THINK IT’S GOING TO DO A LOT FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND FOR THE REST OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. YEAH, I THINK IT I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE LIKE ANOTHER GOOD PART AND A GOOD MONUMENT IN IOWA RIGHT NOW. NOW, AS YOU CAN PROBABLY TELL, LOOKING AT THAT VIDEO THERE, AND AS YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME, THERE’S STILL A LOT OF WORK TO BE DONE. MOST NOTABLY, THERE’S NO FIELD YET. Construction is still moving along at the new Mediacom Stadium. The scoreboard is in place and the bleachers are standing upright. It is soon to be home to four of the five DMPS high school football and soccer teams.With the high school football season just three weeks away, they will start the season at their home stadiums.A DMPS spokesperson says the first games will be played at the new Mediacom Stadium during the first week of October."We wanted to make sure that our students, our players, our marching bands, fans and parents and everyone would have a chance to enjoy the new facility, pay it a visit yet this year," said Phil Roeder, a spokesperson for the school district.Soon after that, the school district says they will begin to make some revisions to the existing stadiums to make them more friendly for other events, like track and field."Those existing stadiums aren't going anywhere, they are still going to be used by schools just used in a different way," Roeder said.A spokesperson with Drake University said their men's and women's soccer teams will begin hosting matches in the stadium after the DMPS opening.
