With the high school football season just three weeks away, they will start the season at their home stadiums.

A DMPS spokesperson says the first games will be played at the new Mediacom Stadium during the first week of October.

"We wanted to make sure that our students, our players, our marching bands, fans and parents and everyone would have a chance to enjoy the new facility, pay it a visit yet this year," said Phil Roeder, a spokesperson for the school district.

Soon after that, the school district says they will begin to make some revisions to the existing stadiums to make them more friendly for other events, like track and field.

"Those existing stadiums aren't going anywhere, they are still going to be used by schools just used in a different way," Roeder said.

A spokesperson with Drake University said their men's and women's soccer teams will begin hosting matches in the stadium after the DMPS opening.
