YOU’RE KEEPING AN EYE ON AN ACTIVE RADAR TONIGHT? YEAH. YEAH, WE GOT A KIND OF A SMATTERING OF STORMS HERE MOVING ACROSS THE STATE HERE AS WE HEAD INTO YOUR FRIDAY EVENING, WE’LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE RADAR PICTURE RIGHT NOW. KIND OF ZOOMED IN CLOSER TO THE DES MOINES METRO. NOTICE MOST OF THESE STORMS ACTUALLY DRIFTING FROM SOUTHEAST TO NORTHWEST AT THIS HOUR, NEAREST ONE TO THE METRO AREA JUST DOWN HERE IN NORTHEASTERN PARTS OF MADISON COUNTY, WEST OF COMING IN NORWALK. THAT’S GOING TO HEAD UP TOWARDS PLACES LIKE VANMETER DE SOTO. BEFORE LONG, ANOTHER ONE UP NORTHWEST OF ADEL THAT JUST POPPED UP HERE IN THE LAST HALF HOUR. A LITTLE BIT MORE WIDESPREAD RAIN AS YOU HEAD DOWN INTO SOUTHERN IOWA, ESPECIALLY A LOT OF DECATUR COUNTY RIGHT NOW. EVEN GOT A COUPLE MORE LIGHTNING BOLTS DOWN THAT DIRECTION. NORTH LAMONI AND HEADED WESTWARD ALONG HIGHWAY TWO. THAT RAINFALL IS GOING TO SLOWLY MOVE EASTWARD, MAINLY GOING TO BE IN SOUTHERN IOWA, NORTHERN IOWA, YOU’RE MAINLY DRY. THERE’S JUST A COUPLE VERY ISOLATED STORMS HERE THIS EVENING. YOU HEAD UP NORTHWEST TO HUMBLE PLACES LIKE BRADGATE TOWARDS RALPH, OVER INTO POCAHONTAS COUNTY. ANOTHER LITTLE STORM THAT’S MOVING TO THE NORTH AND WEST AS WELL. THIS IS GOING TO BE KIND OF THE SITUATION HERE AS WE GO THROUGH THE REST OF TONIGHT. MOST OF THE STORMS GOING TO BE CONCENTRATED I-80 SOUTHWARD. THEY’RE GOING TO SORT OF PINWHEEL, ALL SPINNING EASTWARD AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT FEW HOUR. NOTICE BY TEN, 11:00, MAINLY SOUTHEAST IOWA, I THINK WE’LL BE DRY, PROBABLY FROM MIDNIGHT ONWARD. THOSE OF US THAT ARE SEEING THE RAIN LATE TONIGHT AND THEN AS WE GO INTO TOMORROW, ON SATURDAY, ONE UPDATE TO THE FORECAST. I THINK NOW PROBABLY MOST OF THE DAY ON SATURDAY IS GOING TO BE DRY HERE TO START OFF THE WEEKEND. THE CHANGES ARE GOING TO COME HERE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS LATER TOMORROW EVENING. AND INTO TOMORROW NIGHT. SYSTEM COMING FROM THE NORTHWEST IS GOING TO PRODUCE SOME THUNDERSTORMS UP HERE IN SOUTHEASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA. AND EASTERN NEBRASKA LATE TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND THEN AS WE HEAD PAST SUNSET TOMORROW NIGHT, THOSE STORMS ARE GOING TO BUILD EASTWARD, PROBABLY NOT GETTING INTO CENTRAL IOWA UNTIL I WOULD SAY NINE, TEN, 11:00, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THEY’LL PUSH THROUGH PLACES LIKE THE DES MOINES METRO TO 11:00 MIDNIGHT OR SO. AND THEN ONCE WE GET PAST 2 A.M., I THINK WE’LL BE MAINLY DONE. BUT DURING THAT FIRST HALF OF THE EVENING, ESPECIALLY OUT IN WESTERN IOWA, IN THAT YELLOW ZONE THAT SLIGHT RISK AREA, COULD BE A COUPLE OF STRONGER STORMS IN THAT PART OF THE STATE AS THOSE STORMS FIRST COME IN FROM THE WEST. PROBABLY A DAMAGING WIND GUST OR TWO WOULD BE MOST LIKELY, MAYBE A COUPLE OF LARGER HAILSTONES THAT WOULD BE THE MAIN THING WE’D BE WATCHING FOR THE FIRST HALF OF SATURDAY NIGHT. SO HOPEFULLY, YOU KNOW, THE HINTERLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL, KNOXVILLE’S GOT RACES LATE TOMORROW EVENING. THIS WOULD BE AFTER ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE GOING ON, MAYBE FOR THE HINTERLAND CAMPERS THAT MIGHT BE AN ISSUE. BUT REGARDLESS, THAT’S GOING TO BE MAINLY AN EVENING TIME FRAME THING. THEN SUNDAY, WE PUSH THE SEVERE THREAT OUT. WE’VE JUST GOT SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. THEN DURING THE DAY ON SUNDAY, DECENT AMOUNT OF CLOUD COVER, TOO. AND DECENT AMOUNT OF A BREEZE COMING IN FROM THE NORTH AND WEST. ALL THAT’S GOING TO TEAM UP TO MEAN OUR TEMPERATURES PROBABLY GOING TO BE STUCK IN THE 70S AS WE GO INTO THAT SHOULD SAY SUNDAY HERE TO END THE WEEKEND EIGHT DAY FORECAST THEN FOR NEXT WEEK IS GOING TO KEEP OUR TEMPERATURES GENERALLY IN CHECK. ACTUALLY ONCE WE GET TOWARDS MONDAY, LOW 80S AND NOT TOO MUCH HUMIDITY EITHER. A LITTLE BIT OF A BREEZE TO START NEXT WORKWEEK ON MONDAY, TUESDAY, NOT BAD EITHER. THOSE TWO DAYS PROBABLY GOING TO BE THE NICEST OF THE WEEK. NEXT STORM CHANCE PROBABLY COMING UP ON WEDNESDAY. AND THEN IT’S STILL MOST

A large complex of thunderstorms is currently ongoing in north-central Kansas and moving east northeast toward the Missouri River Valley. This thunderstorm complex will likely weaken substantially later this morning, but the area of mid-level spin and energy generated by this storm complex will graze parts of south-central Iowa this afternoon. There will likely be enough instability and moisture present for some redevelopment of storms generally south of HWY 92 toward the Iowa-Missouri border between 2-10 p.m. Some additional isolated showers are possible farther north and may linger through evening and overnight hours.
