Dr. Jill Biden opens up in interview with Women's Health
First Lady Jill Biden is opening up — talking about her life, personal strength and finding confidence.
Biden appears on the cover of the September issue of Women's Health September issue.
Women's Health Editor-in-Chief Liz Plosser spent time with the first lady in Washington and Delaware, where the Bidens have a home on the coast.
Biden said her strength has been tested over the years as a teacher and advocate, and she works hard to stay focused and strong by working out and eating healthy.
She believes she got her inner strength from her mother, who she called a "good listener," and in a social media video, she shared advice she gives her own family.
"What I like to tell my daughters and granddaughters is — be independent. Be able to stand on your own two feet, whether that means emotionally, whether that means financially. You just need to have a sense of independence," Biden said.
This is the first time a first lady has been profiled by Women's Health.
