IOWA EVENTS AND IOWA’S FIRST IN THE NATION. CAUCUSES ARE LESS THAN SIX MONTHS AWAY. THE CAMPAIGN CASH IS ALREADY FLOODING OUR STATE. CHIEF POLITICAL REPORTER AMANDA ROOKER WENT THROUGH THE NUMBERS. SO, AMANDA, HOW MUCH MONEY ARE CANDIDATES SPENDING HERE SO FAR? STACY THEY’RE SPENDING A LOT. CANDIDATES AND POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES, THEY’RE SPENDING SIGNIFICANTLY MORE AT THIS POINT IN THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL RACE THAN THEY HAVE IN PAST ELECTION CYCLES. THIS RACE HAS ALREADY SEEN $20.8 MILLION IN AD SPENDING AND RESERVATIONS. THAT’S ACCORDING TO ADIMPACT, A COMPANY THAT TRACKS ADVERTISEMENTS. NOW, YOU CAN COMPARE THAT TO 2019 AT THAT POINT IN THE RACE, IOWA HAD ONLY SEEN $2.5 MILLION IN PRESIDENTIAL SPENDING. IOWA’S ALSO SEEING THE MOST PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES SPENDING OUT OF ANY STATE SO FAR. YOU CAN SEE THE TOTAL AD SPENDING IN OTHER EARLY PRIMARY STATES HERE. CANDICE, IT’S AND OUTSIDE GROUPS ARE SPENDING MORE IN IOWA THAN THEY ARE SPENDING IN NEW HAMPSHIRE, SOUTH CAROLINA OR NEVADA. BUT OF THAT, NEARLY $21 MILLION SPENT IN IOWA, WHO’S SPENDING THE MOST? WELL, YOU CAN SEE IT THERE. ACCORDING TO ADIMPACT, THAT’S NEVER BACKED DOWN. THE OUTSIDE GROUP SUPPORTING FLORIDA GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS HAS SPENT $4.5 MILLION IN IOWA SO FAR. SOUTH CAROLINA SENATOR TIM SCOTT ALSO SPENDING A LOT IN IOWA. HE’S SPENT MORE THAN 3 MILLION HIMSELF AND AN OUTSIDE GROUP SUPPORTING HIM HAS SPENT AN ADDITIONAL $3 MILLION AND FORMER NORTH DAKOTA GOVERNOR DOUG BURGUM AND A SUPERPAC SUPPORTING FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ALSO SPENDING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN IOWA.
