The Republican Party of Iowa announced Saturday morning that they will officially hold their 2024 First-in-the-Nation Caucus on Jan. 15, 2024.
The Republican Party of Iowa announced they'll hold their First-in-the-Nation 2024 caucus on Jan. 15. The State Central Committee unanimously voted Saturday morning to approve the date.
"After our state legislature and governor took needed action earlier this year to preempt Iowa Democrats' plans to derail the Iowa Caucus by running a de facto primary election instead, we are also proud to affirm that Iowa will continue to honor our half-century-old promises to the other carveout states," Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Jeff Kaufmann said.
In a plan released in May, Iowa Democrats said they plan to hold in-person caucuses on the same day as Iowa Republicans. However, Iowa Democrats will not select presidential preference at the caucuses. Instead, state Democrats plan to mail in their pick for the Democratic presidential nominee.
Following today's announcement, Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart released the following statement:
"We're aware of the decision by the Iowa Republican Party. However, we did not have a chance to have any input on the choice of this date. No matter what, Iowa Democrats are committed to moving forward with the most inclusive caucus process in Iowa's history. We’re committed to doing what's good for Democrats, what's good for Iowa, and what's good for democracy."
