Former physician faces sexual abuse charges
An Ankeny man was arrested Wednesday and now faces two counts of sexual abuse against a minor.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 72-year-old Lynn Lindaman was arrested by the Ankeny Police Department on Wednesday. In a news release, DCI says the charges against Lindaman came about after a complaint was filed with the Ankeny Police Department on June 27.
Lindaman has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree against a minor.
Back in 2022, KCCI spoke with Sherri Moler, who says she was sexually assaulted by Lindaman in the 1970s.
Moler says she remembers the trial in 1976. Moler tells KCCI Lindaman was convicted.
"I had to stand in front of 12 strangers and tell a horrific part of my life," Moler said in an interview with KCCI in April 2022. "I had to look at him."
However, in 2020, Moler says she learned Lindaman was offered a deferred judgment and his case was dismissed. Since then, Moler has spoken up at several Iowa Board of Medicine meetings and continuously shared her story.
"He shouldn't be around patients," Moler said in 2022. "He shouldn't be around young children."
Moler called KCCI on Wednesday, sharing the news about Lindaman's arrest.
Just this spring, Moler filed a lawsuit against Lindaman.
Moler is able to do so thanks to a 2022 legislation signed into law by President Joe Biden. Known as the "Eliminating Limits to Justice for Child Sex Abuse Victims Act of 2022," the law abolishes the 10-year statute of limitations for victims who were minors when they experienced sex offenses at the federal level.
It allows them to file civil claims.
The lawsuit alleges Moler has experienced "mental health diagnoses and treatment of Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, pain and suffering," and more.
KCCI will continue to follow this investigation and share updates as they come.
