The former football coach of Adel DeSoto Minburn High School is accused of stealing money from a booster club during his time as head coach.
The Gridiron Club said they noticed financial irregularities and confronted coach Garrison Carter.
David Felt, the president of the Gridiron Club, said that Carter admitted to taking the money and returning it after he was confronted by board members of the Gridiron Club. Felt declined to give specifics on the amount of money and the date of when it was taken.
Felt says the Gridiron Club is a nonprofit that supports and invests in the ADM football program. He confirmed that Carter has since resigned from the Gridiron Club.
The ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe provided the following statement to KCCI on Tuesday:
"I can confirm that Mr. Carter resigned his employment with the school district, but by law, the district cannot comment on confidential personnel matters. For clarity, the district is considered separate from the Gridiron Club."
Carter announced his decision to step down as the ADM head football coach on May 12. At the time, he publicly stated that he wanted to focus on his family and his mental health.
KCCI reached Carter by phone on Tuesday, but he declined to comment.
Carter was hired as the ADM head football coach in 2018. ADM football has had a resurgence under his leadership. Last season, they won 10 games and made it all the way to the state semifinals. With a talented roster coming back, they are considered one of the top teams in the state next season.
Carter does have a new job. The Creston School District told KCCI that he signed a teaching contract that begins July 1.
