An Ottumwa man was killed in a crash after a chase with police Saturday night.An Iowa State Patrol crash report says 19-year-old Reese Jones, who was driving a motorcycle, was trying to drive away from law enforcement on Highway 63 in Bloomfield. As he was crossing the intersection at Highway 2, he collided with a pickup truck.The 17-year-old driver of the truck was not hurt, but Jones was killed.It is unknown what led up to the chase.According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 118 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That's 13 more than at the same point in 2022. Over the last five years, an average of 338 people have been killed in crashes each year, the DOT says.
