One of the most expensive homes currently on the market in central Iowa belongs to former Major League Baseball player Jeremy Hellickson.Hellickson, a Des Moines native and Hoover graduate, and his wife, Natalie Hellickson, built the 4,954-square-foot house in 2018 and listed it recently for $5.8 million. It has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms and sits on seven acres. The house also has a saltwater pool, a full-size, two-story basketball court and a golf simulator.Hellickson pitched in 232 career games for five MLB teams and finished with a 76-75 record. He was the 2011 American League Rookie of the Year after going 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 189 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays.He retired in 2020 after 10 seasons in the majors.Realtor Megan Hill Mitchum said she is looking for the right buyer."One of the best features of the home is that it overlooks all of these Dallas County views and there's about 7 acres on the property," Hill Mitchum said. "You feel like you're completely secluded and private from the rest of the world. Yet it's super close to all of the West Des Moines amenities nearby."Who will buy this one-of-a-kind house? Most likely, someone who comes from a bigger city."I feel that compared to some of the other markets in the USA, you get a lot for your money here. So this is no exception to that," Mitchum said.Mitchum said the Hellicksons are selling their house because they are building another house nearby.
