15-year-old from Ohio to attend college in the fall
THE RESOLUTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY ONLY ON WLWT. WHILE MOST 15 YEAR OLDS ARE WRAPPING UP THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, CARLOS CARSON THACKSTON IS PREPARING FOR COLLEGE. THE ANDERSON TOWNSHIP TEEN IS HEADED TO THOMAS MOORE COLLEGE IN THE FALL WITH A PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIP. WLWT’S LINDSEY STONE CAUGHT UP WITH THE TEEN ABOUT HIS ACHIEVEMENTS AND ALSO HOW HE’S PREPARING FOR HIS NEXT CHAPTER. THIS IS AMAZING. HOW ABOUT THIS STORY? I KNOW I WAS TRYING TO DROP SOME BIG WORDS WHEN I WAS AROUND HIM BECAUSE HE IS AN IMPRESSIVE KID. TY QUANDO, THE BAY CLUB E SPORTS, YOU NAME IT. CARSON THAXTON YEAH, HE’S PROBABLY DONE IT. AND IT’S THAT IMPRESSIVE RESUME THAT’S HELPED HIM LAND A SPOT ON A COLLEGE ROSTER THIS FALL. I SKIPPED A COUPLE, A FEW GRADES AND ACTUALLY SECOND, SIXTH AND SEVENTH, TO BE PRECISE. CARSON THAXTON WAS JUST 11 YEARS OLD WHEN HE STARTED HIGH SCHOOL AND NOW THE 15 YEAR OLD IS HEADED TO THOMAS MOORE COLLEGE IN THE FALL. BEING ONE OF THE YOUNGEST PEOPLE PROBABLY ACCEPTED TO THAT COLLEGE. I MEAN, I FEEL LIKE I’M NOT GOING. I FEEL LIKE I’M GOING TO FIT IN. BUT IF YOU’RE GOING TO STAND OUT MORE THAN A LOT OF PEOPLE, CARSON SAYS THE ACHIEVEMENT DIDN’T COME EASY. IT’S MORE OF AN ART FORM. BALANCING YOUR TIME THAN ANYTHING. PROUD MOM MARY SAYS SHE ALWAYS KNEW HER SON WAS DESTINED FOR BIG THINGS. I’M REALLY PROUD. I’M AMAZED. OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, FOR HIM TO BE SO YOUNG, GOING TO COLLEGE. BUT WE KIND OF KNEW AT A YOUNG AGE HE WAS SPECIAL, LIKE SMART AND INTELLIGENT. SO I’M JUST REALLY PROUD OF ALL THE HARD WORK HE’S PUT IN TO MAKE IT THIS FAR. MARY PLANS TO DRIVE HIM TO CAMPUS IN THE FALL. THAT’S BECAUSE THE COLLEGE FRESHMAN WON’T BE OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENSE. MOST 15 YEAR OLDS ARE JUST FINISHING THEIR FRESHMAN YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, SO YEAH, NOW I’M COLLEGE BOUND. HIS MOM SAYS THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING FOR HER SON, BUT SHE HOPES CARSON LEAVES SOME TIME TO JUST BE A KID. I ALSO WANT HIM TO BE A 15 YEAR OLD BOY AS WELL, SO I DON’T WANT HIM TO LOSE SIGHT THAT HE’S ONLY 15. SO WHEN I’M TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF FUN. AND SO WITH THIS FRIENDS. WELL CARSON PLANS TO GO INTO THE TECH FIELD AND DO SOMETHING WITH COMPUTERS. HE’S SO GOOD AT THAT. HE SAYS AFTER THAT, HE DOES KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. BUT ASHLEY CERTAINLY BRIGHT THINGS AHEAD FOR THIS TEAM AND THE CITY OF LINDSEY STONE AT WLWT NEWS 5. LINDSEY, THANKS SO MUCH. GREAT TO SEE THAT FORT CARSON. AND HE SAYS THAT HE’S TAKING THE SUMMER TO RELAX AND PREPARE FOR BECOMING A COLLEGE STUDENT. HE WILL TU
