15-year-old from Ohio to attend college in the fall
While most 15-year-olds are wrapping up their freshman year of high school, Carson Thackston is preparing for college.
Thackston received a full-ride scholarship to Thomas More University, a private university in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, in the fall.
The 15-year-old's impressive resume — including Taekwondo, debate club, E-Sports and much more — helped him land a spot on a college roster in the fall.
Thackston said he skipped second, sixth and seventh grade. He was just 11 years old when he started high school. Now, he's headed to Thomas More University in the fall at just 15 years old.
"It was a mix of emotions," Thackston said. "Happiness, joy, and then nervousness and uncertainty."
"I’m really proud of him," said his mom, Mary. "Just amazed for him to be so young and going to college. We knew at a young age he was special and intelligent. I’m really proud of all the hard work you put in to make it this far."
His mom plans to drive him to campus in the fall. That is because the college freshman won’t be old enough to have a driver's license.
Mary hopes her son finds time to study and have a little fun too. "I want him to be happy," she said. "I also want him to be a 15-year-old boy as well. I don’t want to lose sight that he’s only 15. He needs to have some fun and still be with his friends."
Thackston plans to go into the tech field and do something with computers. He says after that, he doesn’t know what he’ll do next.
