FASCINATING. A NEW PROGRAM IS CONNECTING SENIOR LIVING FACILITIES TO SENIOR DOGS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR A HOME GAME. CNN’S ALAN SHOPE HAS THE STORY OUT OF LEAWOOD. SHE WAS A STRAY THEY PICKED UP. MEG IS AN EIGHT YEAR OLD LAB MIX WHO LOVES TREES. OH, THEY’VE SEEN THAT UP TO THIS POINT. SHE’D HAD A ROUGH GO OF IT. SHE WAS DEEMED NOT ADOPTABLE BECAUSE SHE HAD TO LARGE TUMORS ON HER BACK. THAT’S WHEN THE SPRING YOU ALWAYS IN FOREVER STEPPED IN AND SAVED HER LIFE. DONATIONS PAID FOR HER SURGERY, AND ALL SHE NEEDED WAS A HOME. MEG PROVIDES COMPANIONSHIP, CARE HAVEN HOMES, A SENIOR LIVING FACILITY IN LEAWOOD CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO ADOPT A SENIOR DOG FOR THEIR SENIOR. AND IT’S JUST WORKED OUT WONDERFULLY. IT HELPS OUR DEMENTIA PATIENTS. THEY LOVE HAVING HER HERE. SO MANY SENIOR RESIDENTS LOVED DOGS. THEY’VE HAD PETS IN THEIR PAST. MEG HAS BEEN IN THE HOME AND ON THE JOB FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THE JOB IS TO BE A COMPANION, TO BE A COUCH POTATO, TO BE A FRIEND. MEG HAS HER OWN HUGE BACKYARD TO EXPLORE. SHE’S GOT BIG WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE TO LOOK OUT OF. IT’S THE PERFECT RETIREMENT SITUATION FOR THE OLDER LASS. SHE IS JUST THE SWEETEST THING. WE KNEW THAT SHE WAS A LOVABLE DOG AND THAT’S SOMETHING THIS FACILITY SAYS THEIR SENIORS COULD REALLY USE ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS. SHE IS VERY COMFORTING TO THEM. SHE’LL SIT WITH THEM. A new program in Missouri is trying to connect individuals living in a senior facility with dogs who are in a similar stage of life. Care Haven Homes, a senior living facility in Leawood, right outside downtown Kansas City, came up with the idea to adopt a senior dog for their facility. “It’s just worked out wonderfully," said Deanna Holm from Care Haven. "It helps our dementia patients…they love having her here.”The facility's lucky dog is named Meg. Meg is an 8-year-old lab mix who loves treats. She's had a rough go of it recently, but now things are starting to look up for her.She gets to enjoy exploring a huge backyard and looking out big windows in the house. It’s the perfect retirement situation for the older lab. Meg was adopted from Always and Furever in Spring Hill.
