This 16-person bike takes you around Des Moines
It's called the Big Yellow Bike. And what makes this mode of transportation special is up to 16 people can pedal!
"We can have up to 16 riders," owner Dave Welch said. "It is street legal, so we ride it on the regular roads. We get a lot of people who stop and stare as we drive by them. We get a lot of car honks and a lot of waves."
The bike takes riders around to see the sights and sounds of Des Moines.
"It’s pretty basic," Welch said. "You just have to pedal, you don’t have to steer."
Just show up ready to have a good time like Carey Moreno.
“Nothing about this is normal,” Moreno said. “Which is why we love it. That’s why it’s so fun. You just explore and pedal away and hang out with good friends."
The Big Yellow Bike has been in Des Moines since 2012. It was shipped to Iowa from the Netherlands, where it was manufactured.
You can't have drinks on the Big Yellow Bike, but it will take you where you need to go to grab a drink.
Pedaling seems like a lot of exercise, but somehow, people don’t seem to get exhausted.
Skye Welch said she doesn’t get tired.
“You gotta find the seat where you don’t have to pedal,” she said.
But you might want to pedal a little if you want the bike to end up back at the station, or wherever it’s supposed to go.
