A BOY, A LOT OF CLEAN UP THERE, ANDREW. THANK YOU. NEW AT FIVE TONIGHT. DES MOINES POLICE HAVE RELEASED THE NAMES OF THE THREE OFFICERS INVOLVED IN SHOOTING AND KILLING A TEENAGER. SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS NOLA BOLLINGER, ZACHARY ZACHARY DUTCHER, THOMAS GARCIA, ALL ON CRITICAL INCIDENT LEAVE TONIGHT. THE DEPARTMENT SAYS ON MONDAY THE OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO A SOUTHSIDE APARTMENT BY A FAMILY MEMBER OF A 16 YEAR OLD. POLICE SAY THAT TEEN POINTED A GUN AT OFFICERS WHO THEY SAY THEN TRIED TO DE-ESCALATE THE SITUATION BUT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. MORE THAN ONE OF THEM FIRED THEIR GUN. Des Moines police have released the names of three officers placed on leave after a 16-year-old was shot and killed by police on Dec. 26. On Monday, officers were called to an apartment at 400 E. McKinley Ave. on the city's south side around 12:30 a.m.Police say they found an armed 16-year-old inside the apartment along with other family members. During de-escalation efforts, police say the teen raised the handgun in the direction of officers. More than one officer fired their own weapons at the boy.Three officers were placed on critical incident leave.On Thursday, Des Moines police released the names and ranks of those officers.The officers involved are Noah Bollinger, Zachary Duitscher and Thomas Garcia. All three are senior police officers and five-year veterans of the force.The name of the 16-year-old will not be released at this time per the family's request and in accordance with Iowa Open Records laws.
