A snowboarder who became the first American to win a medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing said her exit from another event she planned to compete in was due in part to the International Olympic Committee taking issue with a logo on the bottom of her board. Julia Marino, who won the silver medal in snowboard slopestyle, sat out of the big air qualification on Monday. United States Ski and Snowboard said that was because she took a hard fall in practice. While Marino said her body was part of it, the real reason was her board, which has the name Prada visible on its bottom. The IOC says Marino's board isn't manufactured by a sporting goods company, which goes against Olympic rules. They weren't aware of the issue until after Marino first competed, the IOC said. "In my opinion, when a board is approved, it's meant that all the rules were looked at and all the rules were met for the board to have been cleared in the first place," Marino said. The IOC offered the option to cover up the logo, but since it's on the base Marino didn’t feel safe covering it and riding, so she withdrew.Watch the video above to learn more about this story.
