Brian Sather
President and General ManagerBrian Sather has been working in Hearst Television stations for nearly a quarter of a century. He’s been leading KCCI since 2013. Prior to that, he led the company’s ABC and CW affiliates in Northwest Arkansas. Sather got his start in Hearst at KETV in Omaha where he rose through the ranks of sales leadership.
Since taking over leadership of KCCI, the station has increased its news coverage, adding the 9pm News on MeTV and a Sunday morning political talk show, Close Up. The station has also increased its political reporting including hosting a Presidential Primary Debate in partnership with CBS in 2015. During the run-up to the 2020 Iowa Caucuses, KCCI debuted The Undecideds, a roundtable discussion with local undecided voters asking direct questions to each Presidential candidate. Under Sather’s leadership the station has also provided key reporting around major community challenges like opioid addiction and social justice. Sather also oversees KCCI’s commitment to local causes including the station’s partnership with numerous non-profit organizations. In 2020, the station helped raise more than $1.1 million for local organizations.
Sather got his start in news at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD, telling uniquely local stories as a photojournalist.
